General Info
The 158 automotive light bulb is a type of light bulb that is used in automobiles. The 158 light bulb is a small, round light bulb that is usually found in the instrument panel of an automobile. It is used to illuminate the instruments and gauge clusters in the vehicle. The 158 bulb has two filaments, one for the low beam and one for the high beam. The low beam filament is brighter than the high beam filament.
It has a voltage of 14V, a wattage of 3.36W, the base W2 1x9 5d Mini Wedge and it characterizes this light bulb as a T3-1/4 Miniature Bayonet (BA9s). Usually, bulbs with such characteristics have a life expectancy of 450-500 hours. Moreover, the 158 bulb emits a light that is whiter than the light emitted by other types of light bulbs. This type of light is known as "cool white" light.
Where Can You Apply This Bulb?
With such characteristics, this bulb may be used for different applications like:
- panel instrument lighting
- cluster lighting
- map reading lights
- dome lights
- cargo lights
Be attentive, because its usage is not only limited to automobiles. The BA9s base of the 158 bulb also makes it a great choice for other devices, like:
- exit signs
- exit lights
- emergency lights
- general purpose lights
Usually, drivers don’t think about their instrument panel lights until one burns out. The bulbs in your gauge cluster and center stack are some of the hardest-working and longest-lasting bulbs in your vehicle. That’s why we offer a full line of OEM grade replacement 158 automotive light bulbs.
Are 158 And 168 Bulbs The Same?
The 158 comes in 194, 168, W5W, 147, 152, 159, 161, 168, 194, 192, 193 - and these lamps usually look the same. All of these lightbulbs share a common base and are made with the same incandescent filament; the only thing that varies is their wattage. The 168 bulb, also known as the 921, is a miniature wedge base T3-1/4 bulb. This lamp has a calcium sulfate filling that gives off a whiter light than regular incandescent bulbs. The 168 is used mostly for backup, cargo, and license plate lights on cars and trucks.
For example, the 194 bulbs, also called the 579, are used mostly for interior map lights, dome lights, and trunk lights on cars and trucks. These lamps have a single contact bayonet (BA9s) base which makes them easy to replace. The 194 has a slightly bluer tint than the 168 but they both emit similar amounts of light.
So, with such a variety of interchangeable light bulbs, it can be confusing to know which one to choose for your car. Motorists should be aware of the different types of light bulbs and their applications to make sure they are choosing the correct bulb for their needs.
